Results of the Third International Scientific-Practical Conference «Social computing: fundamentals, technologies of development, social and humanities effects» (ISC — 14)

The Third International Scientific-Practical Conference «Social Computing: Fundamentals, technologies of development, social and humanities effects (ISC -14)» was held 18-19 September 2014 in Sholokhov Moscow State University for the Humanities. This undoubtedly key event in the scientific life of the Institute of humanitarian technologies in the sphere of social computing has captured the attention of more than 200 of specialists researching social and political effects of Internet communications in Russia and abroad.

This year conference had a number of fundamental distinctions, which include:

— Firstly, the conference had an international status due to the participation of leading specialists of the « World Internet Project », Oxford Internet Institute (the Great Britain), Network Information Center (China), «Stakeholder Management» company (Australia), The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, University of Johannesburg (South Africa), University of Lodz (Poland) etc.-

— Secondly, sections` topics were significantly modified on account of the inclusion in the discussion of professionals in such aspects of -social computing as mathematical modeling of politico-social processes, corpus-based linguistics, sociology of social networking sites, tools of social media analysis, «generation Z» and others.

— Thirdly, there were new forms of interactions between the participants at different sites of the conference. Expert workshops, for example «Comparative analyses of the development of Internet communications» with the participation of professor Grant Blank ( the head of the research WIP group in the Oxford Internet Institute in the Great Britain), are among the most productive of them.

The fact, which also should be noted, is that this conference was organized and conducted by the new team supported by laboratories of the Institute of humanitarian technologies in the sphere of social computing: Internet sociology (the head – Candidate of Sociological Sciences, Anna Dombrovskaya), mathematical modeling (the head – Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Artur Azarov), general and computer linguistics (the head – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Anton Tsimmerling).

We would like to extend our profound gratitude to all the organizers, partners and participants of the conference! Together we have taken one more step forwards to meeting our goal — to comprehend, to interpret and to forecast social and political processes -by means of digital tracks.

Respectfully yours, —

Supervisor of studies of the Institute of humanitarian technologies in the sphere of social computing, Elena Brodovskaya
