Foresight of the Faculty of Ecology and Natural Sciences. Students — the architects of their future

On December 3, 2014 ecology students of all years, teachers held a «brainstorming session» in the form of foresight. The 4th year students Risuhina Daria and Panfilov Ivan were the moderators supervised by the Dean of the Faculty Minkova Natalia Olegovna and the Head of the Ecology and Earth Sciences Department Yeroshenko Vasily Ivanovich.
Foresight is the technology helping to predict, or the action of predicting, what will happen or what is needed in the future.

The aim of the work is the search for new ideas and suggestions. We tried to imagine and structure the future of the faculty. Students were divided into teams of «education», «science» and «social life». Each team brought up topical issues and participants suggested several alternative solutions. The teachers and moderators listened attentively, expressing their own thoughts.
Here are the most interesting and feasible ideas in the educational field:
1) Additional courses for students.
2) Introduction and active development of the exam preparation courses for school students.
3) Academic competitions, providing benefits for prospective students of our university and our faculty.
4) Promotion and development of grade-rating system.
5) Development of an electronic cartographic base.

Scientific ideas were as follows:
1) Development of EcoArchive (classification and storage of all scientific data collected by students) for further use of the information while writing term papers, graduation thesis and articles.
2) The scientific debate club for viewing popular science films, discussions, creation of eco-projects, communication on the topic of current scientific discoveries and events.
3) Active cooperation with educational institutions.

Ideas in the social life field:
1) «Student of the Year» contest among the students of all years that will be great motivation, rewards for good study and active participation in the life of the faculty will be very pleasing to those who deserve it.
2) — Creation of a «case-club”, which is a good opportunity for students to approve themselves in front of prospective employers.
3) Development of a holiday center in Lazinky.
4) Introduction of faculty traditions.

The Foresight gave us a lot of positive emotions, important ideas and a great desire to achieve their goals. Each student has the opportunity to develop, support, implement projects.
Our students should meet more often to create, improve and build something new. Is it not what we need now, with the relocation and transformation of departments in institutions?
