Sport

There are volleyball, basket-ball, soccer, martial arts, aerobics, swimming, touring and skiing sport sections in our university. During — winter and summer holidays educational and training — gatherings are conducted in Altai, Tien Shan, on the lake Seliger. There is a ski center functioning.

Members of physical education department and sports club are working extensively on sport popularity development. There is — Spartakiad with all universities involved. Soccer and athletics competitions are the most popular ones with — students. There they can win the prizes of two-times Olympic champion and world champion, outstanding runner Svetlana Masterkova who graduated from European languages faculty, and her successor, champion of Russia in 800 m. run, — Anna Alminova who also graduated from European languages faculty.

Students-skiers of our univeristy have special respect. Ski club “Sholokhovets” functions in SMSUH. 46 students from different faculties train there. Among them are 16 masters of sport, four of them are world-class masters of sport. All students who do sports have their own special educational schedule and 4-5 training meets a year.

Nikita Kryukov, Alexandr Panzhinskiy and Nikolay Morilov had outstanding performance during the Olympic Games 2010 in Vancouver and won gold, silver and bronze medals in ski sprint.
