Travel without leaving the university. The day of national cultures was held in Sholokhov Moscow State University for the Humanities

One could see what was going on in the vestibule of the Ryazanka Building of Sholokhov Moscow State University for the Humanities on November 18.

People in national costumes were treating everybody with national cuisine, dancing and singing. It turned out that it was only the beginning of the day of National Cultures which has become an official Sholokhov Moscow State University for the Humanities holiday this year.

As we know, there are some 300 foreign students at our university. They represent Tajikistan, Germany, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, China and other countries. Every one of them is important for the university. This is why the idea of such holiday came to life.

Everything began in the vestibule. Moving towards the concert hall, we could see lots of outlandish items. At the very entrance, visitors could see Russia of the XVIII century. Ladies in fluffy dresses, galants with hussar moustache, Istomina, whom Pushkin liked so much. In general, everybody could enter the epoch of Onegin and join the royal ball.
Further, the guests of the holiday could taste savory cuisine of Azerbaijan and Moldova. People were constantly gathering around the tables. What student can resist food? Fortunately, there was enough treat for everybody and we could still see happy guys and girls, eating flapjacks, nuts and grapes some time later.

In order to return to childhood and to play outdoor games just like in elementary school, we could go to the gymnasium. Here, people of different nations told everybody about national games in their countries. Everyone was particularly interested in Russian “rucheiyok” (streamlet) which was played by many students absorbedly for a long time. And then people went to the hall — the concert was starting. Denis Viktorovich Yarygin, Provost of Student Activity, delivered a speech at the very beginning. He reminded once again that in Sholokhov Moscow State University every student is important, that students should know about traditions of their friends and group mates. And then the show began! Traditional Russian songs, lezginka, songs in Chinese — there was everything. It was really interesting and fascinating. Concert was at the top level, as it usually is in Sholokhov Moscow State University for the Humanities.

At the end of the holiday Elena Vasilyevna Krutitzkaya, head of the Department of Educational work and Youth Policy at Sholokhov Moscow State university for the Humanities. Since she is a very down-to-earth person, she said that she would love to represent her country — Ukraine — during the holiday but unfortunately, it would — now look inappropriate, but Elena Vasilyevna promised that next year she will personally feed everyone with borsch and do a national Ukrainian dance. The holiday was gorgeous and now everyone, who was here, is now waiting for the continuation next year. What student can resist eating food? Especially borsch!
