Sholokhov_110 in Budapest

May 28 – 30, 2015 — at the Russian Cultural Centre in Budapest there was held the event «Sholokhov Spring» as part of the Year of Literature celebrated in Russia , to mark the 110th anniversary of the great Russian writer and Nobel Prize winner Mikhail Sholokhov.

The exhibition «Sholohov_110» included the best works of the two-year long project, which was attended by more than 100 students of Sholokhov Moscow State University for the Humanities. The author and project leader of the exhibition is Associate Professor Design Department Eugene S. Shelestova. The original visual forms of presentation, focused both on the factual side of the writer`s creative life and on his social message, made the theme of the exhibition most interesting for different age groups. In this regard the project is a good example to attract the younger generation to study the classics of Russian and Soviet literature and the corresponding historical period.

The unique identity of the Cossacks, who were devoted a significant role in Mikhail A. Sholokhov`s works, was authentically reflected in the concert program «Mikhail Sholokhov: the writer, the citizen, the laureate» performed by Music Department — students of Sholokhov University. Beautiful Cossack folk songs were performed by Music Department students: Ekaterina Nikiforova, Julia Nevskaya, Julia Serova, Alexandr Perepechin and university graduate Sergey Ryazanov, who won the hearts of listeners. The beauty of their performances was highlighted with authentic Cossack costumes, which were made for the holiday by students — under supervision of Sholokhov University tutor Elena N. Korneeva. By the way, despite their young age, our singers have become laureates of national and international contests, and each of their performances really becomes a celebration and a great pleasure for viewers of all ages and musical tastes.

May 29, 2015 at the Budapest Etvesh University, took place the presentation ceremony of the book by a famous Russian theologian and scholar Paul Florenskii «Philosophy of Cult», published in the Hungarian language. The translation is done in the framework of the international program of grant support RIAS Doctor of Philology, Sholokhov University researcher Ilona Kiss (Hungary). She is the author of the introductory article to this book. The Assembly Hall of the largest Hungarian University, which is also the most ancient one in Europe, was full. The discussion was attended by teachers and representatives of various universities, scientific and cultural centers, linguists and cultural experts, scholars and art historians. Among them there was a Hungarian poet and essayist, scholar of Russian literature Akosh Siladi, who emphasized in his speech the importance of the work by Paul Florenskii for the world of philosophical thought and for the world culture in general. A copy of the book «Philosophy of Cult» was handed over to the RCC library.

May 30, 2015 specially for Hungarian teachers of the Russian language at the RCC there was held the seminar «Sholokhov`s Creative Works in the Cinematography” by a Russian film director, screenwriter, winner of the National Film Award «Nika» Eugene Tsymbal.

The main attention was paid to the films, shot on the basis of the writer`s early stories, also his military prose. Under discussion at the seminar there was specifics of the film adaptation of Sholokhov’s works both in Russia and abroad, — in the light of the anticipated release of a new Russian film «The Quiet Donube», — the discussions also touched upon the issue of the popularization of classical literature among young people.

The author of the project “Sholohov_110” is Galina D. Kuznetsova, director of the Russian Institute for Advanced Study (RIAS) of Sholokhov Moscow State University for the Humanities.

Also, as a constituent part of the visit, there were held meetings of RIAS director — Galina D. Kuznetsova with the authority of the Department of Education of Ministry of Education of Hungary Gálffy Kolos, director of the Institute of Advanced Studies of the Central European University (IAS CEU) Eva Fodor, direktor of Central European University (CEU) Zsuzsanna Gabor, Director of the Vienna Institute for Advanced Studies (IWA) Knut Neumayer, Director of the Institute of Design, and other members of the scientific and educational community in Hungary.

All meetings were aimed at developing of international cooperation and implementation of joint international scientific, cultural and educational projects in the Russian Institute for Advanced Study (RIAS) of Sholokhov Moscow State University for the Humanities.
